Program Details

LUISS Guido Carli is a multidisciplinary University offering degrees at all academic levels. The focus is on business studies, economics, politics and law. The campus is located in the center of Rome and presents a modern study environment for 7000 students. In the more than forty years since its founding in 1966, LUISS has played a key role in Italy’s economic and cultural development. Not only has it trained world-class leaders sensitive to the values of market culture and the rules of modern democracy, but it has also made important academic contributions in the fields of economics and finance, law and political science.

The PhD in Economics at LUISS Guido Carli is a four-year program providing advanced education in all the main areas of economics. It is aimed at training international economists capable of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and capable of expanding the frontiers of research in economic disciplines.

The program requires full-time attendance and is taught entirely in English. It is designed to give students the ability to understand and elaborate a broad spectrum of economic problems and to provide up to date analytical, empirical and quantitative techniques.

Students acquire the necessary skills to undertake both academic and professional careers, in universities, international research institutions, public authorities, central banks, consulting and financial institutions.

In the first year, students follow advanced courses at EIEF in Applied Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and Finance. The second, third and fourth year are devoted to writing their Doctoral Dissertation and presenting their work in internal seminars while following seminars or “reading groups” at LUISS or at EIEF.

For the academic year 2019/2020, five positions are available. All positions are tuition-free. The five positions come with a scholarship (gross € 15.343.28 per year).
