Program Details

The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of Europe’s largest university hospitals, affiliated with Humboldt University and Free University Berlin. With numerous Collaborative Research Centers (CRC) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft it is one of Germany’s most research-intensive medical institutions. Internationally renowned for its excellence in teaching and training, Charité proudly lays claim to more than half of all German Nobel Prize winners in Physiology or Medicine.

The Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies of Charité invites applications for it PhD program. Funding is available through the Einstein Center for Regenerative Therapies (ECRT) for six doctoral researchers who want to join the BSRT.

Project 1: Role of human extracellular matrix properties in central nervous system Regeneration. Read more.

The projects begin in January 2020. In the first year the potential candidates receive a stipend for doctoral researchers and after successful re-evaluation will be funded for another two years on a doctoral researcher position.

Eligibility/ Requirements

Academic requirements:

Applicants must hold a Master’s, a German Diploma or an equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bio-engineering or veterinary medicine. It is not necessary to hold the degree at the time of application. However, you must have been obtained your degree before enrollment into the program. 

Language requirements: If you have a very good command of English, but cannot provide any evidence, please do not hesitate to contact the coordination office.

  • Participation in an internationally recognized test such as TOEFL, IELTS or similar tests is therefore highly recommended. You can also ask at your university if they provide an official English test which could be a more cost effective alternative to the TOEFL or IELTS tests (not required if you are a native speaker).
  • The test results must arrive in the coordination office no later than the application deadline.
  • The student copy of the results uploaded in the online application form should be not older than two years.

Application Process

For your application please use only the online form provided on the website, where you can also find further information about the BSRT and the application procedure. To access the application form you have to register first and then login with your user details. Read the instructions carefully and thoroughly, here.

  • The academic transcripts and certificates must be uploaded as PDF or JPG files in the appropriate fields. All documents and certificates must be either in English or in German. If your documents are in any other language, please submit certified translations only and not the documents in the original language. Candidates who are accepted to the program will have to provide all their original documents when they enroll on the program. Extracts from your BSc, Master or Diploma Thesis are not required. You should only provide documents which will support your application so please do not overload it with certificates for minor courses.
  • Two confidential references are required from either your current or former supervisors. The references must reach no later than the application deadline.
