Program Details

Primarily located in Greater Helsinki, Finland, Aalto University was established as a merger of three major Finnish Universities. The Department of Communications and Networking (COMNET) at the University is looking for a doctoral student to work for the 5G-MOBIX (5G for cooperative & connected automated mobility on x-border corridors) project. Funded by the European Commission, 5G-MOBIX applies and evaluates 5G core technological innovations to autonomous driving use cases across cross-border and urban test sites around Europe and Asia. The industry consortium includes about 100 partners from telecom (e.g. Telefonica, China Mobile, Nokia, etc.) and automotive (e.g. Ford, Daimler, Sinotruck, etc.), plus public authorities.

The candidate must have a master’s degree (or equivalence) in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering or in a related study with excellent results. The candidate must have a high motivation for research, and enjoy working in an international and cross-disciplinary team. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Yu Xiao with a starting salary of 2446€/month.

Eligibility/ Requirements

The following are the basic requirements to apply.

  • Familiar with wireless networking and virtualization technology
  • Excellent programming skills, preferable in multiple languages
  • Good practice of applied mathematics, e.g. optimization and statistics
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Good organization skills
  • Rigorous thinking
  • Ability to work independently
  • Research experience in the field of 5G, cloud computing, or autonomous driving is considered a plus
