Program Details

The Department Chemistry and Pharmacy at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg invites applicantions for the Master in Molecular Science. Molecular science is a comparatively recent field of research in chemistry encompassing biochemistry, molecular chemistry, medicine and pharmacy. The most cutting-edge scientific and technological developments are all integrated into the degree programme, preparing graduates for a career in up-and-coming fields such as life sciences and nanotechnology.

The interdisciplinary Master’s programme in Molecular Science offers students the opportunity to specialize in one of two exciting fields:

  •  Molecular Life Science focuses on drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, and
  • Molecular Nanoscience focuses on materials chemistry and devices.

In addition to the mandatory specialization module, students can choose from a broad range of courses offered at the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Biology, and Materials Science, whether for the compulsory or the optional elective modules. In both programs, a six-month Master’s thesis gives the students a chance to develop a deeper understanding in a specific scientific topic of their choosing.

The programme comprises lectures, seminars, exercises, and lab courses.Students must pre-select one of the two main modules, Molecular Nanoscience or Drug Discovery. They must also choose a mandatory elective module (Molecular Synthesis, Theory, Physical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicinal Chemistry or Chemistry of Life) and an elective module in accordance with the programme guidelines.

Founded in 1743, FAU is a strong research university with an international perspective and one of the largest universities in Germany with 38,771 students, 261 degree programmes, 4,000 academic staff (including over 579 professors), 199.64 million EUR third-party funding, and 500 partnerships with universities all over the world.
