Program Details

The Universitat de Barcelona School of Economics is the centre for research and postgraduate education in economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona (UB). Its mission is to build a reputation for internationally excellent research in major fields of economics. The UB School of Economics pools the key strengths of the faculty in three research areas: Growth, Trade and Spatial Economics; Public Economics and Policy Analysis; Behaviour, Games and Risk. The School aims to create an environment through which the faculty can excel, attracting new researchers at both senior and junior levels. It provides technical support to researchers for funding applications, project management and the dissemination of results, and aims to promote the transmission of major findings outside the academic setting by increasing interaction with wider society.

The UB School comprises four departments, three research institutes and twelve research groups with official status granted by the Catalan government, all of which are affiliated to the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona.

The School calls for applications to a master’s degree in Economics program taught entirely in English. The two-year program is designed to provide students with the analytical and quantitative skills they will need to work in the public and private sector or to conduct research. The students will have the chance to get very solid methodological foundations and get specialized in some areas of interest at the same time. On successfully completing this course, students can expect to find employment in a broad range of sectors, including higher education and economic consultancy. The strongest candidates are encouraged to undertake advanced research on the PhD Program. Second-year students have the opportunity to study part of their degree abroad.

Students offered a place on the program can be considered for a grant. UB School of Economics publishes on April/May a call for two Teaching Assistantships. Students will also be able to apply for funding opportunities offered by public institutions during the course (collaboration scholarships).

All funding supports are awarded competitively, on the basis of academic merit. However, students are encouraged to apply for external support for which you are eligible. Detailed information on fees and funding options here.
